Psychologists say Technology is affecting our focus at work
Well, we can all agree that our attention span has gone to shit. Right? In 2004, psychologist Gloria Mark discovered that the average attention span on a computer was 2.5 minutes. By 2020, that had plummeted to just 47 seconds. This decline has been heightened by the rise of technology, which has become the primary culprit in disrupting our ability to focus effectively at work.
Notifications from social media, emails, and news alerts demand immediate attention, pulling workers away from sustained tasks. Tools like Slack and Teams, designed to improve communication, often mimic chatrooms, flooding workers with messages and breaking their focus. These interruptions not only make it hard to concentrate but also force workers to repeatedly rebuild their train of thought, wasting time and mental energy.
The effects of technology extend beyond the workplace. The blurring boundaries between work and home life, especially with remote work, have made it harder to switch off. This constant tether to devices has eroded our ability to enter a “flow state” – a period of deep, uninterrupted work that enhances productivity and creativity.
Experts suggest practical solutions to combat this: turn off unnecessary notifications, schedule breaks for social media, and set aside screen-free time during the day.
Pepsi’s new “Undercover Cups”
Pepsi has launched “Undercover Cups,” a daring marketing stunt targeting McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s fast-food giants that exclusively serve Coca-Cola. In the campaign, Pepsi agents storm these locations to swap customers’ drinks with Pepsi, capturing the surprise and amusement of diners and staff.
The campaign, part of Pepsi’s “Food Deserves Pepsi” initiative, plays with iconic fast-food branding, such as giving Wendy’s mascot Pepsi-blue hair and incorporating Pepsi slogans into logos. It follows the success of September’s “Pepsi Chase Cars” and aims to position Pepsi as the ultimate burger companion.
Launched on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and more, the campaign is tied to National Fast-Food Day, offering $5 DoorDash discounts for meals that include Pepsi. We honestly think this a great marketing move from pepsi and some healthy competition between rivals that the internet sure does enjoy a lot.
Blinkit launches new services for larger Items
We recently saw a meme that said if it was 2050 we would have gotten Coldplay concert tickets on Blinkit and to say less we know Blinkit might also be working on that. Blinkit has launched a trial initiative in Delhi NCR to deliver larger items, including gaming consoles, home appliances, and luggage, directly competing with Amazon and Flipkart. The company is utilizing a dedicated fleet for bulky, high-value products and plans to implement specialized "dark stores" to ensure rapid delivery within 30 minutes.
Currently, Blinkit's average order value stands (AOV) at ₹660, marking an 8% growth compared to last year. This trial aligns with its strategy to boost AOV and expand its market presence amidst increasing competition.
Blinkit offers the convenience of a quick return and replacement process, addressing product issues, including damages, within a day. This sets it apart from platforms like Amazon and other e-commerce apps, which typically take up to a week for replacements or deliveries.
Coca-Cola's AI Christmas ad leaves viewers unimpressed
Coca-Cola has launched an AI-generated version of its iconic "Holidays Are Coming" ad, replacing the classic 1995 live-action original with a computer-generated reimagining. While the ad maintains the essence of the original, with familiar snowy scenes and the classic soundtrack, the AI twist has sparked a wave of criticism online.
Fans have called the ad "creepy" and criticized the use of AI over traditional artistry, with some arguing it undermines human creativity. The backlash follows a similar response to AI-driven ads from brands like Toys R Us.
Social Media Updates
Snapchat’s adding a new safety feature to its Snap Map, with parents now able to request that their teen share their real time location in the app.
As you can see in this example, the new function will enable parents to send a request through to their teen at any time, prompting the user to then share their live location. Parents will also be able to share their location back, helping to keep users and their family aware of where they are at any given time.
Pintrerest has added an easy way to save items to your own holiday shopping wishlist, where you can gather together items that you like, for yourself or somebody else.
As you can see in these example screens, now, you’ll be able to quickly and easily save items to your holiday wishlist for easy reference within your shopping process.
Instagram’s looking to counter hashtag spammers, by removing the option to follow hashtags from the app.
Spammers have been exploiting trending hashtags for a while, adding irrelevant tags to their posts in an attempt to increase their reach. Despite Instagram's advanced filtering tools designed to block junk content, many users continue to encounter irrelevant posts in their feeds. This ongoing issue highlights the challenge of keeping hashtags clean and meaningful.
Recently that has been quite the debate on if we should or shouldn’t use hashtags in our post. Hashtags contribute to social media SEO by improving the reach of your posts within social platforms.
It also makes it easier for the user to click on them and explore the posts made under that hashtag. So to conclude it we should use hashtags for our posts and reel.
